Prior to 1997 the First World War Memorial was near the Anglican Church, and the Second World War Memorial was near the United Church – the only known location in NL that the Memorials were in different locations. In 1995, Town Council, with the support of the Legion, wrote both churches with a proposal to relocate the Memorials to a central location in town. A committee was formed (Council, Legion, Anglican Church & United Church) and on July 1, 1997 the Memorials were unveiled and rededicated, honouring those who lost their lives during the conflicts.
